![]() “I assure you I can lead an army without the ability to hear just fine, Gren simply makes my orders more easily understood. “But, how can she lead your forces if she can’t hear? How can she give orders if she can’t speak?” Amaya stepped forward with confidence to retake the conversation. I am signing your words to her and verbalizing her signs so both of you are understood.” “General Amaya is Deaf and uses sign language to communicate. It wasn’t the first time someone had assumed Gren held the higher title, as he did the speaking. Which one of you is the General?” Amaya rolled her eyes and nodded her head towards Gren, giving permission for intervention. It’s a pleasure.” The Neolandian General jerked his arm back in surprise and looked towards Gren. “I am General Amaya of Katolis, this is my close friend and interpreter Commander Gren. “A pleasure to meet you, General Amaya, I imagine it is much cooler in your homeland.” Gren shook his head and took a step back, turning red with embarrassment as Amaya approached the man, extending a hand to shake while signing with the other. Perhaps this was a Katolan greeting? He stuck out his hand. His eyes darted between Gren and Amaya, unsure of the strange gestures. Gramen shot Gren a look of confusion, eyebrows furrowed over purse lips. It was… toasty, but beautiful.” He signed as he spoke, angling his body in towards Amaya so she could see his hands clearly while also watching for Gramen’s response. "Good afternoon sir, I hope you found your journey pleasant.” Before she could begin, Gramen nodded his head towards the interpreter. Amaya, ever the social butterfly, bounded over to say hello to the fellow soldier with Gren close behind. Similar uniforms had been created for the Katolin visitors to accommodate the warmer weather of Neolandia, they all wore a lightweight armor under red and gold robes to shield the wearer from the harsh sunlight. He wore a golden cloak with black embroidery forming swirling loops in the fabric, contrast to the stiff pose he had assumed on the side of the small waiting area. The quick exit left Amaya and Gren in the presence of Tactus Gramen, General of the Neolandia Army. Upon entering the castle, King Harrow and Queen Sarai were rushed into their meeting with Ahling, King of Neolandia, and soldiers of both kingdoms stood guard at the doors, ready to protect their rulers from the curious ears of… Whoever felt the need to listen into a meeting about trading food and goods. The city of Eboreus, the location of the meeting, featured a large river with a curving black bridge looming over the flowing water and boats moored along docks. Tall golden buildings with blooming greenery creeping up the sides of stone, and drapes decorated with the kingdom's animal, an elephant, strung between structures providing shade and visual appeal. ![]() But trying to remember English and Katolis Sign Language this early in the morning? A quiet ride to Neolandia sounded fantastic. Working as the General's interpreter came with plenty of food and a room in the castle far away from the cold military barracks, and meant you could participate in all the fun the castle offered. ![]() ![]() The King and Queen of Katolis, along with soldiers of their choosing, would be traveling to Noodl- Neu- Neolandia (That name isn't any easier to fingerspell), one of the five human kingdoms, to discuss some boring agreement and assure more years of peace between the two lands.Īmaya sat hunched over on her horse with a breakfast tart in hand looking just as groggy as Gren felt, and wasn't in the most talkative mood. It seemed he should have heard about this mission, given its importance. Who needs to keep track of politics when you work for the General? It wasn't exactly his job as her interpreter to be in the know on all things diplomatic, he just followed along and helped with the communication when needed. "I'm accompanying Sarai on a trip, royal duties and stuff, we leave within the hour." It was like General Amaya to forget these types of things, but leave it to Amaya to forget one of her closest friends and coworkers for a mystery mission. "I'm so sorry, I completely forgot to tell you!" She signed, looking apologetic. ![]() Gren untangled the blanket from his feet, rolled out of bed, and opened the door to a sweating Amaya. Judging by the shadows, it must have been around 5, maybe 6 in the morning. Groaning, he glanced towards the far window, wincing at the early morning sun peeking through the curtains. A light knock on the door startled him awake, a special knock, in a pattern only used by a good friend as to state her presence without needing to speak. ![]()
